Talking Minerals: CNAS Interviews Saleem Ali

Today, in a post on the Center for a New American Security‘s Natural Security Blog, Christine Parthemore published her “5 Questions” interview with Saleem Ali, Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont. Ali is the author of the book “Treasures of the Earth: Need, Greed, and a Sustainable Future” and recently named Young Global Leader for 2011.

This is typically the type of article I’d post only as a link on the AiG Facebook page and leave it at that. However, this article was one I felt deserved a little extra publicity. Ali has a real-life grasp on mineral resources, how necessary they are to our everyday lives, and what can be expected of us in terms of their sustainability. None of this far left or right-wing idealized scenario stuff, but real workable suggestions and ideas. He understands how these resources are utilized in every facet of our lives and that simply “consuming less” won’t work in most cases.

So, do yourselves a favor and read Parthemore’s post, then go check out Ali’s book and see for yourself why he was chosen as a global leader!
